How not to play Bridge

This is a series of articles about mistakes made at the bridge table.  All are real events which I have witnessed over the years. The names have been changed to protect the innocent (or not so innocent) in this case.

Each hand displays at least one blatant error (often more) and a discussion follows with how the mistake(s) could have avoided and each has a Bridge Principle as a guide for the future.

In which some dreadful bidding by both players and some odd play by declarer result in a 4d contract (making 11 tricks) rather than a 6d or 6NT contract by others (all making 13 tricks).
